Foxton 3-0 Great Shelford
Foxton were at home on Saturday against Great Shelford and picked up an excellent 3 points after a 3-0 win.
Both teams started the game fairly well. Skeggsy had a couple of good chances to score, but the first one was saved well and the second effort, whilst under pressure, went just wide.
Foxton took a deserved lead when Greig Dowding finished well on the volley from Ryan Phillips’s dangerous free kick in to the box. Shelford, nearly hit back immediately when they had a good chance to score from just inside the box, but Fraser saved well.
Shelford, who were down to 10 men for the first eight minutes of the second half due to a sin bin being carried over from the first, started the second half the better side and were looking dangerous, but fortunately, didn’t create any real clear cut chances that their possession and play probably deserved. Foxton’s midfield and back line did well to keep them at bay.
The second goal came again from the “Dowdinator“. This time, he was first to react after Carlow’s deflected shot could only be parried by the visiting keeper into his path, and he rolled the ball into an empty net.
Foxton then gained the upper hand and were unlucky on a couple of occasions when both Dowding and Josh Sewell hit the woodwork. The final goal came courtesy of Matty Chapman, who raced onto Phillps’s pass in behind the Shelford back line, to cheekily lift the ball over the onrushing keeper.
Final score 3-0.
