Wisbech St Mary Res 1-8 Foxton

This Saturday saw Foxton make the long journey to Wisbech St Mary in a Challenge cup tie. And after a dominating performance they progressed to the next round.

Foxton started well and were on top from the outset, but missed early openings. However, they finally took the lead when Jez headed home Eliot’s cross from the right.

The lead was soon doubled when Roger Skeggs picked up the ball from Matty’s pass, jinked inside his marker and finished well from the edge of the box.

The home side then made a game of it pulling a goal back, after Fraser could only parry a free kick and the onrushing striker scored from close range.

Foxton scored almost immediately to restore the two goal lead when Chapman’s powerful header was brilliantly saved but Eliot picked up the pieces and scored in the bottom left corner. 3-1 HT.

The second half was much the same with Foxton in the control throughout. Matty made it 4-1 when his free kick from about 25 yards nestled nicely in the top left corner. Itch then made it 5-1 when his corner kick when straight in via both posts.

At the end of a good team move, Chapman found the killer pass to Greig who scored the first of his brace, with the second coming after he dispossessed the home keeper and slotted into an empty net.

The scoring was finally completed in a nice day for the club, with young debutant Jake Williams, from the colts set up. He finished well from close range from Evers’s squared pass.

Final score 8-1.
