Foxton 3-8 Eynesbury Rovers Res
Foxton crashed to a heavy home defeat on Saturday with an 8-3 loss to Eynesbury Res.
Foxton started well and were taking the game to the visitors with some neat football and a good tempo to their play. This lead to the home team taking the lead from a Roger Skeggs goal, after some good movement down the right. Matty crossed for Greig who then laid into the path of Skeggs who smashed the ball home from close range.
After taking the lead, Foxton stayed on top, but conceded a penalty just before half time which was got converted to make a 1-1 score line.
The second half got underway and Foxton again had the upper hand, regaining the lead when Ryan Lees headed home from Chapman’s corner.
The lead only lasted about 10 minutes however, when the visitors equalised with a curled effort. At this point, the heavens literally opened with a heavy downpour and at the same time, Foxton found themselves shell shocked as the visitors scored 3 goals in about a ten minute spell to make it 2-5.
Approaching the last ten minutes, Foxton then got a goal back when Itch blasted home from Josh’s through ball.
Then, just as before when the visitors went on their goal spree, in a mad final 10 minutes Eyensbury scored another 3 goals, with Foxton seeming to lose all shape and fighting spirit.
The scoreline possibly wasn’t a particularly accurate reflection on the balance of the game, but, some poor defending and a couple of good finishes ended in a shocking final result for the home team.
