Foxton 4-1 Linton

Foxton were back in league action on Saturday, with a home tie against Linton Granta.

Linton started the sharper of the two sides. After a period of pressure, they missed a glaring chance to take the lead on about ten minutes, after some good play down the right hand side and a decent cut back, found an unmarked player at the back post, but he somehow managed to miss when scoring looked easier.

Foxton then took the lead when the tireless Justin, closed down the Linton keeper and the ball fell kindly to Jake Williams, who comfortably finished from close range.

The conditions were difficult for both sides, but to their credit, they were both still trying to play the correct way. Foxton then had to put Ada in goal, after Brad picked up an injury.

This didn’t seem to affect the home team too much however, as they scored their second goal on about 40 minutes, when birthday boy Matt Graver, managed to play a searching ball in behind the Linton defence for Jake to get after, the keeper made the choice to come out early in a race to clear his lines but Jake just beat him there and finished very well to grab his second goal.

HT 2-0

The second half started in the best way for Foxton, as Justin Leavers, put them 3-0 up just after the restart with a great goal, as he curled home from 20 yards after picking up Liam’s pass.

Moments later Linton hit back and reduced the deficit, after stand-in keeper Ada should’ve done better with a ball over the top, but the striker earned the rub of the green and finished in to an empty net.

Linton went on to have a strong 20 minute period but Foxton held fast managing to thwart and clear chances. Ada did well to tip one shot onto the bar and then save another from a shot that was drilled across him, more than making up for his earlier error.

The game was killed of on about 70 minutes, when that man Leavers was again involved. This time, a neat one two with Josh Segrave, allowed Josh to open his Foxton account with a finish from an acute angle.

The home team saw the remainder of the game out, picking up a valuable and hard fought 3 points.
