Foxton 6-1 Chatteris Town
Foxton were at home again on Saturday, and picked up another valuable 3 points.
Foxton started the game perfectly when they took an early lead after Ada drove home a free kick from 25 yards, after Justin had been fouled.
The home team were then well on top throughout the half and should really have had the game wrapped up by half time, but a host of missed chances from various players, meant they only had the one goal lead at the interval.
Chatteris failed to create anything of real substance but it was evident that Foxton had to be on their toes, as the Chatteris number 9 had pace to burn and was willing to chase anything.
Foxton again started well in the second half and scored their second goal just after the restart, when Eliot Knight scored from Ada’s cross.
Ten minutes later, Chatteris pulled one back from the spot after Fraser had fouled an opposing player on the right edge of the box.
Foxton didn’t panic and soon restored their 2 goal lead five minutes later, when a classy flick round the corner by Justin allowed Knight to grab his second goal, when he latched onto the ball and raced past the Chatteris defence, before calmly slotting past the advancing keeper.
The visitors didn’t give up and were working hard trying to get back in the game, but the Foxton back line, marshalled brilliantly by Matt Graver, kept them firmly at bay.
On 65 minutes, it was 4-1, when Roger Skeggs found the bottom corner from 20 yards after he picked up the ball from Justin’s blocked shot.
Jake Williams, who had recently come on, then had two glorious chances to score but his first effort was blocked and his second effort somehow missed the target.
The 5th goal came from another substitute in the shape of Jez McMurrough, who found the roof of the net from Knight’s header across the goal, from another Ada set piece.
The scoring was then completed on 88 minutes, when Skeggs grabbed his second goal, from another Ada through ball.
