Foxton 3-2 Comberton

Foxton were back in league action on Saturday, with a home tie against Comberton.

The visitors started the game on the front foot and were pegging Foxton firmly back in their own half, with a barrage of attacks. Brad made 3 excellent saves and Combo also hit the wood work.

Just as it looked like Foxton had weathered the storm, the visitors got a goal in the 22nd minute, from the penalty spot after Brad had fouled the opposing forward.

Foxton equalised ten minutes later, when Ada sliced one in from close range, from Liam’s cross.

The joy was short lived however, as the visitors immediately restored the lead with a lobbed finish.

Half time couldn’t come soon enough for the home side and they fortunately got there just being the one goal behind.

The start of the second half was a better affair for Foxton. On 55 minutes, it was all square once again, when Jake had a strong run down the right, before playing into Liam, who then smashed home into the top corner from the edge of the box.

Foxton now had the momentum, but Comberton were always a threat, especially from set pieces. So, the game hung firmly in the balance.

On 89 minutes and now approaching the end of the game, Foxton got the winner courtesy of an Itchy goal which was pure brilliance. Josh Segrave had managed to pick up play on the edge of the Comberton box before shifting it to Itch, and then the rest, as they say, was history. A delicate left foot chip… under pressure… top corner… enough said. The Maestro.

In all fairness this was a very hard, well fought game, and fortunately for Foxton, it went their way.
