Foxton 1-2 Hemingfords Utd

Foxton were at home on Saturday, and came a deserved second place against a very hardworking, Hemingfords side.

Despite the result, the game started well for Foxton, when Jez gave them an early lead with a tidy finish from Scotty’s cut back from the right flank. That however, was about as good as it got in the first half for Foxton, who just didn’t get going.

Lots of credit must go to the visitors, who didn’t let Foxton settle and were always dangerous when they attacked. They had a really strong 20 minute spell where they were guilty of missing 4 one on ones.

Foxton then had a couple of chances to double their lead when Justin firstly headed wide from Ada’s corner, and then pulled a first time shot, wide of the post, from a ball in from the left.

Hemingford grabbed an equaliser from a corner of their own, when an unmarked player headed home at the back post.

HT 1-1

Hemingford continued the second half where they left off the first, coming out sharp, but missed another one on one.

The game then evened out and was highly competitive. Foxton may slightly have had the edge as things went on, but just couldn’t find that final bit of quality to open up the determined visiting defence.

With 20 minutes to go, a good finish from the lively Hemingford forward gave his side the lead.

Foxton kept plugging away right to the death, but were still unable to find an equalising goal. Ada, Itchy and Eliot Keating all missing good enough chances to test the home keeper.

FT 1-2
A bad day at the office for Foxton but full credit must go to the opposition who put in a stern performance and picked up a well deserved 3 points for their efforts.
